WHAT ITEMS SHOULD I BE AWARE OF WHEN I WALK?

This may be one of the most important pieces of advice we can give you. When participating in a walking program, always record your walking progress in a training log. Besides enabling you to chart your progress, a training log is an excellent tool for injury prevention and diagnosis.

When you train, you should record your mileage, pace, general feeling about effort and any extenuating circumstances. This can include:

  • Soreness or acute injury

  • Extreme weather conditions

  • Lack of sleep

  • Stress at the workplace

If you are developing or have a problem, you should consult a doctor or coach. By having your training log on hand, you can go over what led up to your problem and help prevent it from occurring in the future.
